Your own private AI — three honest paths
"My own private AI" is a legitimate demand: data stays with you, the bill is predictable, and nobody else learns from your documents. There are three ways to get there — and all three make sense, just not for the same company. Here they are, with costs and weak points.
Path 1 — Buy it and run it yourself
~€5–8k once + your timeAn AI workstation with a local model runner, on-premises. The best path if you have a capable person, like hardware, and the office can host it. Honestly: excellent for learning and hobby use, workable for one or two internal users. The weak point is year two: patching, backups, GPU failures, model updates — and nobody answers at 3 a.m.
Right when downtime doesn’t hurt and someone genuinely owns the care.
Path 2 — Your iron, someone else maintains it
a setup fee + a monthly feeSomeone installs the open-source AI stack on your server and maintains it remotely. You still carry the hardware, the power bill and the risk; there is no redundancy or hosting behind it. Before signing: who is behind the company, and what stands behind the availability promise?
Right if you insist on your own hardware and accept that operations remain a shared responsibility.
Path 3 — Operated private AI
predictable monthly, from €500The private AI and everything underneath — infrastructure, redundancy, backups, monitoring, model lifecycle — is the provider’s contractual responsibility, under a written SLA. "Your own" here means: your data, your rules, your export — but not your nights.
Right when you want the outcome with a predictable bill. This is the ATAILA path.
Paths 1–2 reflect price bands publicly advertised on the market in mid-2026; path 3 is ATAILA's net "from" anchor. The full archetype comparison: how ATAILA compares →
The 18-month bill
The box's price isn't the box: €5–8k of iron + power + the time of whoever cares for it + the downtime when it doesn't run. The installed path looks cheaper until you add the hardware, the monthly fee and the fact that operational risk stayed with you. The operated path over 18 months: a flat monthly fee — and everything else is the provider's problem, in a contract. Run your own numbers; if DIY wins for your case, we'll say so.
